Tranquil Tulips (Video Tutorial)

I had a lazy Sunday afternoon with my hubby this past weekend. At one point, during our NCIS marathon, I worked on this card while Gibbs and crew solved crimes. All in all, a pretty good day! Unless noted, all products Stampin' Up!

**edit: I failed to mention in this post that my complete inspiration for the original piece came from artist Kellee Wynne. I will be doing another post with a piece I'm working on and tell you more about Kellee in a few days. In the meantime, click here to see her lovely website.

This card was made using the hostess set called Tranquil Tulips. After I was finished with this particular card, I couldn't bring myself to add a sentiment or embellishment. I think the tulips speak for themselves.

After uploading this card to a few demonstrator facebook pages, I had some requests for a video tutorial. Part of this card uses the Not Your Mother's Shaving Cream Technique, first showcased on my blog (with video) here. I would encourage you to watch at least the first segment of that video.

Here is the version I made for the video:

I think both of these cards are fine without a sentiment on the front. I now have two beautiful cards ready for multiple occasions. I used various inks and supplies for the cards in addition to the hostess set. I go over that in the video a bit. Hope you enjoy it!

What a beautiful card! I'm not an artist, but after watching your video, I think I'll give this a try. This was my favorite set in the new catalog.

  2. I just have to tell you that I am blown away by the beautiful cards you make. They are so innovative and your videos make me feel like the technique is one I could tackle. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!

    1. You can do it Mary! #playwithabandon #experiment It's only paper!

  3. Omg,Kim your getting sooooo, GOOD at painting, love love it ♥️

    Hugs Frenchie

  4. Kim - You are absolutely AMAZING! I loved everything about both videos. I just purchased some reasonable watercolor paper (Canson) at Walmart and can't wait to try these shaving cream/clear block techniques. Perhaps even I can make something special. You make it look so easy and almost fool proof. I'd love to know where you purchased your spatula. I NEED one of those! The Tranquil Tulips set is perfect for this. TFS and making all the videos!

    1. Barb...probably the dollar store or Walmart. Look in the paint section. I can't wait to see what you create!

    2. Kim - If I can get to it and make a creation - I'll be sure to share! Thanks so much for your reply. Barb

  5. Wow! LOVE the technique and the cards are beyond amazing! TFS

  6. Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  7. I really adore the look of the bold red for the tulips!
