Contemporary Florals and Big News!

Good morning! Over the last few days I've been playing a bit with the new stamp set called Beautiful Promenade. These are just a couple of cards I came up with. All products Stampin' Up!

The top layer is watercolor paper. The one with the Gorgeous Grape flowers didn't necessarily need watercolor paper, but I already had it cut so I used it. For these cards, I swiped Versamark randomly and embossed the swipes with gold embossing powder. I stamped the base flower with color on both of them (Bermuda Bay for one, Gorgeous Grape for the other), then over stamped the color images with Black Staz-On ink. The gold embossed areas "resist" the colored inks, but a bit sinks in to crevices. The Staz-On will stamp and dry "as stamped" on top of the embossed areas. The main difference in these cards is that I spritzed the flowers stamped with Bermuda Bay with a bit of water. I didn't spritz the one stamped with Gorgeous Grape. The black speckles are from the Waterfront stamp set.

Simply Summer

This summer heat makes me long for light and airy things. I just love the way the card below turned out. Unless noted, all products are Stampin' Up!

For the leafy details below: Using an Aqua Painter, I swished some water & Granny Apple Green and Calypso Coral reinker on some scraps of watercolor paper I had on hand, then cut the larger of the 2 leaves using dies from the Tropical Chic Bundle. The little vellum leaves were cut with the Leaf Punch. (Complete supply list below)

I am IN LOVE with all of the possibilities the dies offer from the Stitched All Around Bundle. Just look at how the detail of the edging on the black circle above compliments the wonky striping on the Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper! The die set also includes 2 dies that help you create stitched edgings that look like a sewing machine did it.

I had some left over white seam binding in my sewing box. I used the Granny Apple Green reinker mixed with a little water to dye it. After I dyed it, I scrunched it up to wring it out and left it to dry that way. The little dots behind all of the details were stamped with one of the stamps from the Waterfront stamp set. (If you don't own it, you MUST!)

Summer Themed Stampin' Friends Blog Hop

Welcome to the Summer Themed Blog Hop with Stampin' Friends! This month we will showcase projects with a summery theme, which could mean different things to different people. You will see links for the rest of the hoppers below my post.

When I think of summer, I think of tropical foliage, flowers and lots of green.  For my project, I have used a couple of new stamp & die bundles from Stampin' Up! called Tropical Chic and Stitched All Around.

I must admit, I am really "stamp challenged" by two things: using up the lovely Designer Series Paper that I had to have and 3-D projects. Several days ago, I saw a post by a wonderfully talented stamper named Kerstin Kreis. She had made an explosion type card (mini-album?) that I fell in love with. Click HERE to see her project. I was instantly inspired to try to create one of these little card/mini-albums myself. I CASED her inside quite a bit, but changed up the front.

I used the new Granny Apple Green Woven Ribbon for the tie that closes the project, which measures 5in x 5in.

The photo below shows how it looks when first opened.

And with the top and bottom flaps opened:

Doesn't that Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon make you swoon? I know I am going to be using it on all kinds of projects. And what about the black die cut pieces I have used to layer under the sentiments on both projects? Those are from the Stitch All Around Bundle and I know I'm going to get a ton of use out of those. The interesting edges add such a nice touch.

If you live in the Springfield, MO area and would like to take an in person class to make the mini-album, click HERE for more information. Class size is limited!

Global Design Project #141

There are two things that give me a huge creative block. One is if someone asks me to make a "cute" card. I don't always do well with that. The other is being given specific colors that I have to use. However, I force myself to think outside the box when asked or if I see a challenge online that I think might be a good creative exercise for me. The GDP Challenge this week is to use specific colors: Real Red, Pumpkin Pie and Rich Razzleberry.

I still had the Rooted In Nature Bundle on my craft desk, so decided to use it again. This card was pretty simple to create. I white embossed the leaves on watercolor paper, then just spot painted the leaves the three different colors before using the matching die to cut them out. (used a bit of ink in the lid with my Aquapainter) I think it turned out pretty well and it was quick. With summer being here and me working lots of hours in a busy tourist town, I need quick. All products Stampin' Up!

Rooted In Nature Bundle: Bold & Beautiful Samples

The Rooted In Nature Bundle just about knocked my socks off when I first saw it. There are so many ways you can go with this bundle. Vintage, traditional nature inspired, bold & contemporary (like the samples below), etc. Prepare to see many samples from me using this particular bundle, as I already have quite a few that I haven't posted yet. The trees & leaves all have their own dies!!

For the card below, I simply stamped the bold wood cut image, then stamped the tree on top of it, slightly off setting it. I stamped the sentiment and trimmed it out, layering it on top of a piece of bakers twine I had tied around the card. A simple, quick card with an awesome look. This could be done in many different colors.

I am IN LOVE with the card below. It looks hard, but is SO easy. Just cut a piece of black cardstock and a piece of white card stock the same size. Lay them next to each other and secure to your work surface with a bit of washi tape so they don't move when you stamp the image. Stamp the image with Versamark ink. Emboss the black cardstock with white embossing powder and the white cardstock with black embossing powder. Layer all up on your card base and layering pieces. Many sentiments would work for this card, but I used the word "thank you" trimmed from a longer sentiment from this set. I think this card really has a ton of wow factor!
