Mad for Buffalo Check!

When I first ordered this background stamp called Buffalo Check, I had in mind several color combinations, such as the very common red & black or white & black. However, this morning I had another idea. I needed a simple birthday card suitable for either male or female.

I paired the Buffalo Check background stamp with a die from the Winter Woods Bundle and the tiny "Happy Birthday" from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set. I also used two different embossing folders.

I stamped the Buffalo Check with Lemon Lime Twist ink on to watercolor paper. I then spritzed a bit of water on the piece of paper and blotted it off after the water sat for a few seconds. In person, you can see the varied watercolor(y) look on this piece.

You can make this too!

First Frost Meets Texture & Grunge!

I had SO much fun stamping the two cards I'm sharing today! I used the First Frost Bundle available in the current holiday catalog for both cards, but paired a different stamp set with each one. Both sets have great texture/background stamps that allow you to apply color in interesting ways. I will put the supplies needed under the individual cards. All products Stampin' Up!

For the first sample, I have paired the Artisan Textures stamp set with the bundle.

I think this made a lovely contemporary styled holiday card. Check out the "wonky" frames layered under the sentiment!

You can make this too!

For the next sample, I paired the bundle with the Gallery Grunge stamp set.

I only used two colors of ink for this one. StazOn Black and Crushed Curry. It's not that you have to use StazOn, you could use Memento Tuxedo Black for either of these cards. I just happened to have the StazOn on my craft table. I'm afraid I am possibly hooked on the "wonky" frame look!

Winter Woods~Bring On The Trees!

I am very attracted to any stamp set that has trees or leaves. My very first stamp set was a Stampin' Up! set with several leaves and an acorn stamp. That was in 1999. My next tree set was the Lovely As A Tree stamp set, which I purchased the year it came out. (2001) I still own it and it is STILL available in the annual catalog. I own just about every tree set that is available currently and love all of them. However...the new bundle called Winter Woods is now my favorite.

The group of wintry trees makes me swoon! The birch trees are going to be quite useful as background accents on many things. It even has the perfect shaped Christmas tree. AND the dies, can we talk about the dies??  This bundle is going to be perfect for so many occasions.

For this card, I didn't use any of the matching dies. I fussy cut the sentiment and it has 2 layers of stamped vellum. I wanted there to be a shadow or hint of trees in the background. I adore the Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon on this card and think the Pool Party cardstock gives it a dreamy feel. I used an image from the Artisan Textures stamp set to stamp a bit of color over the sentiment with Pool Party ink.

After stamping the bottom layer of vellum with the tree image using Jet Black StazOn Ink, I used the new Corrugated Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder on that piece. (see the "stripey" looking texture under the top layer?) I sponged a bit of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue on the embossed layer to adhere it to the top layer of vellum. I wanted more dimension on this card, so I took a scrap of paper and used the same embossing folder to emboss it. I used it instead of Stampin' Dimensionals to give the bottom layer of Pool Party some depth. The photo below shows the underneath side of the layers.

September Stampin' Friends Blog Hop: Halloween

Welcome to the Stampin' Friends Blog Hop! This month we will showcase projects with a Halloween theme. You will see links for the rest of the hoppers below my post.

I don't have small children at home anymore, but do have grandchildren, so I normally try to come up with some sort of project/treat for them.  When I saw the new Still Night Bundle from the new Stampin' Up! holiday catalog, I knew it would be a good one to have on hand. I love owls and tree branches!

For the treat box, I headed over to my favorite "go to" site, Pootles over in the U.K. She has some amazing youtube videos with step by step instructions. The above box was actually made to hold two tea lights, but I know I can fill it with treats quite easily and you can make two of these from one piece of cardstock!

To see her video, CLICK HERE. This is a sweet box made using the 'Envelope Punch Board. She used DSP, but I wanted my box to be solid black. After I followed her instructions, the box just looked too plain. I decided I wanted a little bit of texture on the surface, so I grabbed my Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

The photo below shows the cut & scored piece of black cardstock before I embossed it. Since the original piece of paper was just under 6x6 square, it fit perfectly on the 6x6 folder.

The photo below is a close up of the box before I decorated it. Believe it or not, after I embossed it with the folder, I was still able to see the score lines a bit and they folded perfectly just like before with no trouble at all.

Even though the texture is subtle, (almost reminds me of linen), it was just what I was looking for.

I used a Clear Wink of Stella brushed on the owl on the right and strategically on the owl on the left. I also used a teeny tiny brush to apply some of the Whisper White Stampin' Craft Pad refill to the whites of the owl's eyes. I also used the Clear Wink of Stella on the curvy branch die cut. I sponged Pumpkin Pie ink on the 2 inch round circle of Pumpkin Pie cardstock behind the owl.  The larger circle is actually a piece of Vellum cardstock that I ran through the same Subtle Embossing Folder I used on the box.
