Vintage-y Christmas Card

Eek! I never meant to go so long without a blog post. This month has been busy at my regular job and between stampin' workshops, a downline meeting and hunting for the perfect Pumpkin Spice coffee, time just got away from me.

This is the card I came up with yesterday. I'm going to give you some details on how I made it and then give you information on how to have your very own Merry Patterns stamp set. Unless noted, all products Stampin' Up!

To make this card, the initial layer is watercolor paper. I used my "Not Your Mother's Shaving Cream Technique" to make the background with the following Classic Inks: Crumb Cake, Smoky Slate, Soft Suede and Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Click here to see the original video. During the color layering process, I clear embossed the long branch image from Colorful Seasons with Versamark ink. To get the splotchy look, I sprinkled water on the background, then blotted with a paper towel to remove a bit of color. I took another piece of watercolor paper and repeated the shaving cream technique on it (lightly) and stamped the deer outline using Soft Suede, then fussy cut it out. The sentiment and the deer are both from Merry Patterns. The wispy looking white threads are just a bit of cheese cloth.

  2. Kim, thanks for sharing. I love the deer with the background looking like the forest. I have done the shaving cream technique before and love it. I have never done it like you did with the blocks but think will give it a try. When I did a class on it we used photo paper and the colors really grab the paper. Thanks again for sharing and I plan on CASing you in my next class.

  3. Thank you for commenting! I think you will find this shaving cream technique to be quite a lot of fun and a bit less messy. Perfect for a class since it uses less product. CASE away! Would love to see what you come up with.
