Stretching Your Dies (Part 2)

If you haven't seen the post I made yesterday regarding using your dies in ways other than intended, click HERE. When I started playing around with this idea, I realized there were so many other ways to use the tree dies from the Winter Woods Bundle. This was the first card I made. 

Just like yesterday's card, I cut the background tree from watercolor paper and used Moss Green Brusho on it. The die I used for that tree is circled below. 

For the Old Olive tree layered on top of the Brusho tree, I used the die circled below. 

As you can see from the photos of the dies, they are approximately the same height. I didn't alter the Brusho tree for this card, but I did alter the Old Olive tree by just snipping off the bottom with a pair of scissors to make the tree shorter. The little red bird is from the Best Birds Bundle. I love the little pop of Real Red on this card. 

I used Brusho on watercolor paper again for the tree in the front. However, I shortened it by using the die to trim the base of the tree off to make it shorter. This is similar to what I did yesterday, only I cut yesterday's tree in three pieces. I finished it off with another little red bird and a red rhinestone.

Stretching Your Dies (Part 1)

This card wasn't the first one I made using the Winter Woods Bundle tree die in a way other than intended, but it is probably my favorite. I will be posting Part 2 in this series tomorrow with a few more examples. 

For the tree, I die cut a piece of watercolor paper using the die I have circled below. I sprinkled the Moss Green Brusho Crystals on the die cut, then spritzed with water. I adore the variegated look it gives. 

The picture below shows how I used the same die to cut this tree in thirds. After I colored it with the Brusho Crystals, I actually ran it through twice more using the die as shown. Cutting it in thirds this way gives it the lovely edges that a tree should have when you layer up these layers. So much better than straight cuts with your scissors. The Big Shot Magnetic Platform really comes in handy for projects like this one. 

After cutting the tree in thirds, I layered it up on a stamped piece of cardstock. The layers are subtle, but I love how it looks. Speaking of "subtle", the wispy layer on this card is ordinary white tissue paper I used the Subtle Dynamic Embossing folder on. Extravaganza Sale Ends Today and a Clean & Simple Card!

Hey stampers...if you are like me, there are times when you need a card on the fly. I know, technically I should have cards for every occasion on hand, but I don't always. This card came together very quickly. 

I just swished a bit of Sahara Sand ink with some water on to a scrap of watercolor paper, then stamped the stand of trees from the Winter Woods Bundle on top of it. I used the Layering Squares Framelits to cut the image out, then used the same framelits to make a little frame. I like my frames to look "wonky", so I placed it a bit off and stapled it. I use these framelits all the time and the Layering Squares Framelits are included in the sale that ends today!

See the delicate white layer? You are not going to believe how great this looks in person. I took an ordinary piece of white gift wrapping tissue and ran it through my Big Shot with the Subtle Dynamic Embossing Folder. I thought it wouldn't be tough enough to withstand the pressure from the folder and the Big Shot, but it worked great!

Pinterest Inspiration and the Extravaganza Sale Continues!

I am a Pinterest-a-holic. There, I said it! I not only browse for card ideas looking at actual cards, I also browse regular art for card inspiration. When I ran across the piece of art below, I was a bit wowed by what I thought I might be able to do with a few die cuts and stamps for the front of a card. The card below was a quick one. I used a piece of watercolor paper I already had on hand that I had smooshed Bermuda Bay ink on. I used dies from the Winter Woods Bundle and the Rooted in Nature Bundle for the tree cut outs. (However, if you only have the Winter Woods, you can still make this card happen.) I used a die and stamp from the Merry Christmas to All Bundle for the sentiment and the Hardwood  

I used Coastal Cabana cardstock for the die cut word (with a shadow word cut from Soft Suede cardstock). I thought using the Bermuda Bay cardstock for this part looked almost harsh an Coastal Cabana works so well with Bermuda Bay. Hard to tell in the photo, but I brushed Clear Wink of Stella on the die cut word and the Coastal Cabana scrap I stamped the word "wishes" on. I am by no means done experimenting with this method of using negative space to frame images. I hope to post a few more cards using this method in the next few weeks.
