Tranquil Tulips (Video Tutorial)

I had a lazy Sunday afternoon with my hubby this past weekend. At one point, during our NCIS marathon, I worked on this card while Gibbs and crew solved crimes. All in all, a pretty good day! Unless noted, all products Stampin' Up!

**edit: I failed to mention in this post that my complete inspiration for the original piece came from artist Kellee Wynne. I will be doing another post with a piece I'm working on and tell you more about Kellee in a few days. In the meantime, click here to see her lovely website.

This card was made using the hostess set called Tranquil Tulips. After I was finished with this particular card, I couldn't bring myself to add a sentiment or embellishment. I think the tulips speak for themselves.

After uploading this card to a few demonstrator facebook pages, I had some requests for a video tutorial. Part of this card uses the Not Your Mother's Shaving Cream Technique, first showcased on my blog (with video) here. I would encourage you to watch at least the first segment of that video.

Here is the version I made for the video:

I think both of these cards are fine without a sentiment on the front. I now have two beautiful cards ready for multiple occasions. I used various inks and supplies for the cards in addition to the hostess set. I go over that in the video a bit. Hope you enjoy it!

A Note For You: A CASE Using Wood Words

I CASED this card from a delightful demonstrator over in the UK named Valerie Moody. You can see her original card HERE

CASE = Copy And Selectively Edit
To CASE a project, you take what you like from the design and make it your own. It might be the stamp set - the colors, the layout, the flowers, whatever you like that has inspired you to make a card of your own.

See the background that looks almost like chicken wire? That is a piece of DSP from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack.  I embossed the piece with the Hexagon Dynamic Impressions Embossing Folder, then lightly sanded the raised areas. I really like how it turned out!

The Remarkable InkBig Blog Hop

Welcome to the Blog Hop for July 2017. This month our theme is “Sparkle”.  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog – Stampin' Artfully or may have come from the person previous to me in the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects. At the moment you are visiting Stampin' Artfully.

If you follow my blog, you will know that I have been playing around with a twist on the old traditional way of using shaving cream to add color to paper. The link to the post with a video tutorial is here. I added color to the card below using the same method. All products Stampin' Up!

I love the way the colors of Blushing Bride, Powder Pink and Crumb Cake look together. It kind of makes me think of the inside of an abalone shell.

After I used the shaving cream to achieve the color, I took a tiny paint brush and brushed Versamark ink refill along the waves and lines of the design. Then using (retired) Heat & Stick Embossing Powder, I heated it up and put Gold Stampin' Glitter on it. I will be honest with you, I failed to realize until I was making this blog post that the Heat & Stick Powder had been retired. You could also do this with a light application of glue applied with a paint brush, using the glue to hold the glitter in place.

The stamp set I used is from the new catalog and is called You're Priceless and the diamond die cut is from a set called Eclectic Layers Thinlits.

Thanks for taking part in our blog hop, there are so many amazing ideas and inspiration you don’t want to miss. Remember that currently you are at my blog – Stampin' Artfully, so check the blog hop line up list to see who is next in the list.

As always, let me know if you have any questions about the project or the products used.

Dragonfly Dreams

I am currently on the Splitcoaststampers Stampin' Up! Creative Crew Design Team. One of the categories we are supposed to design a card for is called "Love a Technique". Our challenge is to visit the tutorial page (click here) and make a card using one of the tutorials. Well...my tie-dye background tutorial had just been featured the week before, so I decided since I LOVE that technique, to make my sample using it. Unless noted, all products Stampin' Up!

For this card, I used the technique, which entails coloring ordinary white coffee filters with inks & baby wipes to make a tie-dye background. I wanted a little twist on the technique, so once I dyed the coffee filter, I tore it in strips and glued to the card base in an abstract fashion. The dragonfly die cut is from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits. I have placed a small piece of cheesecloth behind the dragonfly and embellished the dragonfly with new Clear Faceted Gems. I always need blank cards, so I left the front without a sentiment. I love the way it turned out!

Not Your Mother's Shaving Cream Technique (Video Tutorial)

This is a different version of an old technique where shaving cream and inks are used to make marbled paper. I have taken it to a different level using the shaving cream to "paint" the paper and even show a bit cleaner, easier technique to achieve the look of marbled paper. There are actually SO many possibilities for this technique, I need several videos. Unless otherwise noted, all products Stampin' Up!

This is the same technique I used to make the flag card I posted here on July 4th and the sympathy card I posted here.

I used the technique on watercolor paper for the sample below.  Doesn't this look just like regular watercolor?

I used Whisper White cardstock for the sample below.

I used Whisper White cardstock for the sample below. You won't believe how much easier this marbling technique is and you use much less of your shaving cream and reinkers.

The stamp sets I've used for the cards above are listed below. The ink colors are mentioned in the video.

Happy 4th of July

I've enjoyed my early morning so far, having a cup of much needed coffee while I worked on this card. It has not escaped me that although things are not perfect in our country at the moment, I had the freedom to do exactly what I wanted this morning and for that I am thankful.

This will be a quick post. The technique to achieve this background is So cool and NOT watercolor. I am hoping to have a video showing this technique in tomorrow's blog post, so stay tuned! I really liked the simplicity of this card. I tried putting words on it, but simple just felt right. I am in love with the yummy new Crinkled Seam Binding from Stampin' Up! in Night of Navy. It adds a touch of artsy-whimsy to this card. I used Real Red and Night of Navy inks on this card.

Wherever you call home, I hope you have a wonderful day.

Artfully Yours,

Kim
