Feather Together Birthday Card

My son chose well for his partner in life. Jennifer is a lovely woman and I'm proud that she is a part of our family. I also LOVE that she likes pretty things. I always enjoy making her cards, because I do believe she appreciates them! Unless noted, all products Stampin' Up!

To make this background, I simply placed 3 of the feather images from the Feather Together stamp set all at the same time on a clear block. This makes for a simple way to do an all over background. After stamping the image repeately with Melon Mambo on Whisper White cardstock, I used one of the other feather images and a splatter image from Awesomely Artistic to add some gold embossing to the background. I gold embossed the sentiment from Feather Together on vellum.

Before I attached the vellum, I took a small piece of ordinary cheesecloth and tapped Versamark on the edges, then sprinkled gold embossing powder directly on the cheesecloth. I always lay my cheesecloth on a piece of aluminum foil and hold it down with a wooden skewer or the end of a paint brush as I heat emboss with the heat tool. The aluminum foil reflects the heat, helping the heat embossing go super quick! I applied a few tiny pieces of Tear & Tape to adhere the cheese cloth. I used Multipurpose Glue to glue gold sequins to the vellum piece. After the glue was dry, I put glue on the back side of the vellum (only on spots underneath where the sequins were glued, this helps hide your glue) and adhered on top of the cheesecloth. There is a small scrap of Whisper White cardstock under the vellum and the cheesecloth, to make the gold embossed wording stand out a bit more.

Paisleys & Posies "Jewel Toned" Trio

When I made this first card today, it reminded me of doing some projects in school with what were called "jewel tones". I thought the color of Pacific Point really fit the bill, so I went on a hunt to find at least two more colors that I thought would work. All products Stampin' Up!

The next color I chose was Emerald Envy.

Melon Mambo seemed to be the perfect color to complete this trio of jewel toned watercolor cards.

I made all of these cards in a little over 30 minutes. These are the type of cards I LOVE...artsy...looks like I spent hours, but in reality, very quick to execute.

Cut 3 panels of watercolor paper 4 x 5.25 for the top layer. Using your Aqua Brush, do a simple color wash on each panel with your chosen three colors. I dried mine with a heat tool to speed things up.

Using clear block "F" (large background sized acrylic block), adhere all of the stamps you wish to use in a random pattern. That's right, you will stamp all images at once! Using Versamark, stamp all images at the same time on top of the watercolored backgrounds and emboss with Gold Stampin' Emboss powder.

The strip for the sentiment is 1 x 4. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere it to the front of the card. I ended up using another piece of watercolor paper (I love how thick it is) to layer under the main piece, but these cards would have looked great just adhered to the coordinating card stock also. The base layers are standard sized top fold cards with paper cut to 4.25 x 11 and scored at the 5.5 mark before folding in half.

GDP 045: Thoughtful Branches

I'm playing along with the Global Design Project this week. It is a color challenge. I also thought I would use this opportunity to post another sample from the Thoughtful Branches stamp set. Unless otherwise noted, all products Stampin' Up!

These were such fun colors to work with! I almost went with a Christmas (in July) card, but thought I would save that for later.

For this sample, I simply used the leaf canopy stamp to emboss watercolor paper with White Stampin' Emboss Powder. I did a simple color wash on top of the embossed image with Melon Mambo ink and my Aqua Painters. Stamped the sentiment and added Black Metallic Thread and some random sequins from my stash before layering it up and using double Stampin' Dimensionals to really give it some depth.

Isn't this a great set? Don't forget...this set will be available during the month of August only, starting August 2. I expect this set (and the matching dies) to sell out quickly and may only be ordered while supplies last.

From July 7th-31st, for every $50 you spend on Stampin' Up! products, you'll receive a $5 Bonus Days coupon that you can use towards a purchase between August 2nd-31st! Buy now, save later!

Global Design Project 034 ~ Sketch Challenge

I'm playing along with the Global Design Project challenge this week, which is a sketch challenge.

When you are playing along with a sketch challenge, remember it is just a jumping off point. Your artwork doesn't have to literally be just like the sketch. As you can see, mine is a loose interpretation of the above sketch. All products Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted.

I was so glad the stamp set Remarkable You will be in the new annual catalog. I've really had fun using it with watercolor samples.  For the scruffy looking netting behind the sentiment, I used a piece of cheesecloth. I tapped Versamark on it, then coated it with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder, then heat set it. I used a skewer to hold it in place while using my heat tool on it. One more tip: if you want to give your layers a real "punch", double up on the Stampin' Dimensionals. See how the colorful layer seems to float over the base card? Stack your dimensionals.

The "thanks" is from Greetings Thinlits and I'm so sorry to see it on the retiring list! If you have browsed my blog a bit, you will see that I have really used those dies. I would grab them while they are available if you don't own them. The speckles on the background were made with the Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. I simply gave the Wink of Stella a little squeeze and tapped it on the aforementioned skewer while holding both over my project. Voila! Perfect glittery splatters.

Supply list:

I'm always sad to see some of my favorites on the Stampin' Up! retiring list, (some are up to 50% off) but I am SO excited about the new catalog items available in June! Out with the old...in with the new. Quantities are limited, so order your favorites right away.

Trash to Treasure

I admit it, I should just be resting today. I have been feeling a bit under the weather for a few days and really need to just catch up on some rest. Instead, I've been trying to clean up a bit in between the "resting" (watching Christmas movies and drinking pumpkin spice coffee). As I was cleaning off one of my messy stamping areas, I noticed that the Stampin' Up! Grid Paper I had been using as a scrap looked quite wonderful with the mix of colors and images. I could not throw it away and should have taken a picture of the entire page before I started gleefully cutting it up.

Don't forget that in the midst of what we would normally call trash, a treasure might be found. This is a great way to use up scraps of cardstock that you have saved. Imagine the possibilities of an entire pad of Grid Paper?? Yes, I think you must have it. Not only is it a great way to help you position your layers and your images, it is a great way to recycle after you are done and want a clean piece under your next stamping project. I hope my "trash to treasure" helps you look at your "trash" in a different manner.

I'm only listing a partial product list as there are so many different stamp sets and ink colors represented. If you want to know about a particular image or color, please contact me. (hint: one of the stamp images is from the new Sale-A-Bration Catalog and is a must have)
