Pals January 2018 “From the Heart” Blog Hop

Welcome to the Pals January 2018 Blog Hop. Our theme this month is “From the Heart” featuring heartfelt projects like Valentine’s Day, Thinking of You, Get Well and Sympathy. I had so much fun creating this card! I'm not sure I have ever used the heavier Designer Series Paper for the actual card base, but it works wonderfully. I thought this brush-stroke painted piece from the Painted With Love paper was perfect!

To cover the heart above with the chunky glitter, I used the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets. I simply snipped a piece off of the sheet, took the backing paper off and adhered a piece of Razzleberry cardstock to it. Then I die cut the heart. At that point, I took the other backing sheet off and "smooshed" the sticky side on to some chunky glitter I had poured on to a piece of scrap paper. After I got as many pieces of glitter as I could to hold, I sprinkled some Stampin' Emboss Gold Powder on top. The embossing powder stuck to the sticky parts that were not covered by the glitter. I then used my heat tool to melt the embossing powder. This process sounds harder than it really is, I will more than likely do a quick tutorial video in the next few weeks. 

I layered a piece of vellum on top of the DSP to soften the look a bit and make the glittery heart "pop". Before I adhered the fancy heart, I stamped the heart border and embossed it with Stampin' Emboss Gold Powder. 

I used a piece of Whisper White card stock on the inside, so I could stamp a sentiment. 

The word "Love" is from the Sunshine Wishes Dies. The rest of the supply list is below. To complete the look, I added a piece of matching DSP to the envelope. All in all, I was very happy with how this turned out.

Pals December 2017 Blog Hop: All That Sparkles and Shines

For this card, I chose to use a technique I used this past October for my Splitcoaststamper's Falliday Fest Challenge Tutorial. Unless specified, all products are Stampin' Up!

I used a stamp from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set for the speckles and splatters. The die cut and the stamped sentiment are from the Santa's Sleigh stamp set and coordinating thinlits. The video below explains the process, which is a simpler, more controlled version of the old shaving cream technique that has been around for years. I was very excited when I came up with it last summer. I call it "Not Your Mother's Shaving Cream Technique".    

I really love the Night of Navy color mixed with the gold embossing and glittery deer! Full supply list will be below the blog hop information.

The Remarkable InkBig Blog Hop: Give Thanks

Welcome to the Remarkable InkBig Blog Hop for October 2017. I always enjoy using leaf stamps so much around this time of year. I decided I wanted something with texture, a few layers and a bit grungy, but still elegant. Unless noted, all products Stampin' Up!

I cut a "frame" using the Lots of Labels Framelits from Soft Suede card stock, then embossed it with the Petal Burst embossing folder. I swiped Versamark on the high spots and embossed with a little gold and a little silver embossing powder. I stamped the leaf image from Vintage Leaves on vellum paper and embossed with gold embossing powder, before using the matching die cut to cut it out. 

A tip: I wanted a grungy feel to the Sheet Music background, so I inked the stamp up with Versamark, then wiped a bit off here and there before stamping and embossing the image with gold embossing powder on my card base. After the stamped image was cool, I sanded the embossed image with a sanding block to make it a bit more grungy. The little wispy threads are a snippet of cheese cloth. (I love the wispy look and am a bit addicted to using a bit of it on many of my cards.)

Pals February 2017 Blog Hop: CASE the Catty

For this blog hop, I chose this particular image from the 2017 Occasions catalog. This lovely piece of artwork is showcasing one of my favorites, the Dragonfly Dreams Bundle. 

I changed it up a bit, but still gave it a watercolor look using my #foolproofwatercolor technique and used the same colors as the original. Isn't this bundle (which includes stamp set & thinlit dies) just gorgeous? 

I used a bit of frayed cheese cloth behind the double dragonflies to add a bit of interest. 

See the slight double layer showing on the sentiment? I realized after I had already put the card together that the sentiment was not stamped straight. To repair this, I applied ink to another piece of watercolor paper the same size, stamped the sentiment again and adhered on top of the crooked one.

Watercolor Thank You

Good Morning...

I've been desperately trying to get over a terrible case of the flu. I literally hate that I've been at home and haven't felt like stamping or creating as much as I would have liked. 

I follow an amazing Australian Stampin' Up! demonstrator named Kylie Bertucci. See her blog here.  She is hosting an International Blog Challenge starting today and I decided I would participate. The theme is "Thank You". I personally think that not near enough thank you notes are mailed in this day of email & Facebook, but we should all try harder, right? (This card will go out to one of my customers.) There will be voting during this challenge and 5 lucky participants will win a coveted spot in an International Blog Hop that Kylie hosts. For my entry, I decided on a watercolor card. All products are Stampin' Up! I love the Remarkable You stamp set. The images offer so much inspiration and possibility. 

I decided to use the calla lily image. I inked up the flower portion of the image with Melon Mambo, then used an Old Olive marker to color the stem. Once I stamped it on watercolor paper, I just applied water from the border of the image and pulled color to the center, adding more Melon Mambo when I needed it and using Daffodil Delight for the center portion of the flower. I made my own "paint palette" by tapping each ink pad on the edge of one of my acrylic stamping blocks. A CD case also makes a great palette. 

To add some interest to the background, I sponged Daffodil Delight on top of one of the masks (stencils) from Happy Patterns Decorative Masks, then used one of the Gorgeous Grunge stamps to add what looks like paint splatters. I cut the word using one of the Greetings Thinlits dies. I think using the negative instead of the actual word added some interest to this project. 

Now for a little tip: see what appears to look almost like a twisty tie in the photo below?

I've been playing with seeing how I can break down the properties of a piece of cardstock without just disintegrating it in order to use it for interesting embellishments. I trimmed a very narrow piece of the Melon Mambo cardstock (think skinny strip, maybe an 1/8 inch wide) and slightly wet it. Once it was wet, not soaking wet, just slightly wet, I rolled it back & forth in my hands kind of like you would an ink pen. (while holding it, put your hands together like you are going to clap, then slide your hands back an forth) I haven't ventured in to making videos yet, but this would be the time for one...Once it looks the way you want it to look, let it dry. I painted my piece with clear Wink of Stella to give it a little sparkle.
